About the event
Finding that your go to couples tools don't often hit right when you're working with couples when one or both brains don't function as "neurotypical"? Traditional couples therapy models often assume neurotypical communication, emotional processing, and relational norms—assumptions that can lead to making therapy less effective and in some cases- harmful. Join us as we dive into learning about neuroaffirming care for the couples that show up in your office. Together we will go over some common mistakes therapists make when working with neurodivergent couples, hidden obstacles that may impact therapy, and practical skills to support your couples in building the relationship they want to see.
During this course we will:
-Recognize and deconstruct neurotypical assumptions in couples work
-Recognize how masking, burnout, sensory differences, executive functioning, and social communication styles impact couple dynamics
-Adapt assessment, communication, and intervention strategies for neurodivergent couples
-Learn about neurodiversity-affirming interventions in working with couples
