This three-hour training explores how sexual trauma disrupts the development of healthy sexuality across the lifespan and offers clinicians a framework for supporting clients as they work to reclaim sexual agency, safety, and connection. Sexual trauma is understood as both a relational injury and an autonomic injury, shaping the nervous system, attachment patterns, and the meaning clients make of their bodies and relationships. The session differentiates developmental impacts on children and adolescents from those seen in adults, highlighting how early experiences
shape later sexual functioning, identity, and relational patterns. Participants will examine sexualized survival strategies, including the eroticization of
danger and autonomic rigidity in sexual functioning, as adaptive responses to overwhelming experiences. The training also addresses gendered patterns in trauma responses, the longterm effects of sexual abuse on adult sexuality, and the ways attachment wounding intersects…
